Luthermuir V Arthurlie Utd

Luthermuir eventually managed to get this game to go ahead at the third attempt due to bad weather over the last few weeks.

Arthurlie United looked confident in their warm-up and the Muir took the game straight to their Glasgow opponents from the whistle. Within 2 mins they had carved the first good chance of the game, Greig took control off the ball in the centre of the park and slipped a great pass in between the back line for Cruickshank to race on to, as he headed to goal he cut inside then back to his left to create space for his shot which was driven hard against the post and ran across the goal and was cleared. On 5 mins a free kick was awarded to Arthurlie, it was swung deep to the back post where an unmarked attacker headed towards goal but it was saved well by Wands. Luthermuir continued to control the game and on 12 mins a corner swung over by Slesser was headed goal wards by Miller, it was cleared off the line to safety by a defender to prevent the first goal. Eventually the deadlock was broken on 15 mins, a great run across the park by Slesser saw him open up the defence and his dipping shot could only be parried by the keeper, Greig was first to react and drove the ball low into the corner for 1-0. On 18 mins a corner was awarded after good work down the wing was cleared by a defender, Slesser whipped in a fierce ball to the front post where Greig just put his header over the cross bar from an acute angle. On 21 mins a great pass by Slesser slipped Greig down the wing and as he raced away he cut back in 18 yards out and fired a shot into the top corner leaving the keeper rooted to the spot for 2-0. Luthermuir were now dominating their opponents and controlling the bulk of the position, great work again on 28 mins by Slesser and Greig which released Greig racing clear with just the keeper to beat his shot slipped just passed the post. The away team could not handle the lively Greig and a minute later he was sent clear by Slesser with the keeper to beat again, as he slipped the ball by him the keeper took him down but surprisingly no penalty and the referee waved play on. The Muir continued to string some great passes together and on 33 mins Greig release Cruickshank down the wing and as he raced towards goal his shot was saved by the keeper. On 36 mins a quick turn by K Darar resulted in him crashing to the ground, as the trainer ran on it was clear that he had dislocated his knee and the game was stopped for about 40 minutes until an Ambulance arrived for him to be taken to hospital. HT 2-0

The second half kicked off and the away team started the brighter and dominated the game as Luthermuir could not get back into their flowing football of the first half. Eventually on 55 mins Miller was deemed to have pulled at an attacker in the box and a penalty was awarded which was slotted home by the striker for 2-1. Both teams were pushing forward now as the game went end to end as the next goal would prove to be vital. On 66 mins good work in the middle by Reid who created space and fed the ball to Duff who ran at the back line, from 20 yards out he took aim and arrowed a low shot towards the goal to make it 3-1. Luthermuir now were content to attack on the break and on 70 mins a ball down the wing was crossed to an Arthurlie striker to just shoot wide. On 81 mins a free kick was awarded after a foul on Morrison, Greig whipped in the ball to the near post and it was headed clear only as far as Reid, he took control and his shot went just wide. The last chance fell to the Muir on 86 mins when good work down the wing by Morrison, Greig and R Darar released Morrison away, he fizzed in a low cross that was just saved from the on rushing Slesser.

Special thanks from Luthermuir Management to the referee Chris Hudson who helped with comforting K Darar during his waiting for the medical services to arrive and keep him relaxed. FT 3-1. Man of the Match: Stephen Greig
