Luthermuir win after extra-time in White Cup tie

Luthermuir were looking to get back to winning ways after the game against Newtonhill and with a break from the league they entertained Lads Club Amateurs in the White Cup.

Straight from the kick off Lads Club started more brightly. In 3 mins the ball was played in behind the Luthermuir defence for the striker but Wands pulled off a great save and the rebound was cleared.

In 12 minutes a ball down the wing by R Darar allowed Greig to getto the byline where he cut the ball back for Ellis to strike well only for the keeper to tip it over the bar.

Luthermuir were using the wings well and again in 26 minutess Craig played the ball low down the wing to the advancing Greig who crossed for Ellis who shot just wide.

Just before half time a free-kick just inside Lads Club half was played high into the box where Duff headed it on for Greig and his fierce shot was saved by the keeper.

Luthermuir started brightly and took control of the game. On 52 minutes Ellis headed down the wing and crossed into the box. The goalkeeper came out and punched clear but the ball fell to Anderson who took control and slotted home.

In 65 minutes Luthermuir hit on the break and K Darar shot wide.

In 76 minutes Milne found Anderson on the edge of the box and he turned and shot just wide of the post.

Luthermuir were controlling most of the game now with few chances falling to Lads Club and Wands had a quiet second half.

SlessEr played a ball for Anderson to run on to, as he headed straight for goal he chipped the on rushing keeper only to see the ball rebound off the post and be cleared by a defender.

With four minutes left, a ball played through the Luthermuir defence ran through for Wands, who came to the edge of his box to collect. It slipped through his hands and as he turned to grab it the on rushing striker just beat him and slotted home. This was the only shot in the second half Lads Club had and Luthermuir could not believe they had given them a chance to get back into the game.

Straight from the start of extra time Luthermuir created a good chance when Slesser played the ball down the wing to Greig who burst away from his marker. He cut the ball back to Anderson who crossed for Ellis at the back post only for his header to be saved well.

In 98 minutes Greig picked up the ball just inside Lads Club half and evaded two tackles to head for the goal. He squared it for Slesser who had his shot saved by the keeper, the rebound was then struck by Anderson and the keeper tipped it away for a corner.

Eventually on 100 minutes Luthermuir got back in front. The ball was taken down the wing by Greig who crossed to the on rushing K Darar at the back post and he finished well.

The second half of extra time saw Luthermuir happy to attack on the break. On 109 mins the ball was taken under control by Slesser in midfield and he slotted it between the defence as K Darar ran in only to see his shot go wide.
