The Lion’s Den Martial Arts Academy in Stonehaven had a fantastic outing at the Kickboxing World Championships last month.

The team returned with a silver and three bronze medals, becoming the first Scottish WKC squad to competete.

This week, Malcom Evans spoke to the Leader about the hard work and dedication the team had shown, adding: “We had a fantastic and successful experience and I was proud to lead the first WKC Scotland squad to the Kickboxing World Championships.

“We returned home with a silver and three bronze (silver and bronze Nicola Gordon, bronze Malcolm Evans and Dean Sutherland).

“The success of the team is down to their hard work and dedication to their training at my Lion’s Den Martial Arts Academy in Stonehaven.

‘‘These guys were pretty much training 24/7 following a gruelling programme.

‘‘They were helped and encouraged along the way by their fellow Lion’s Den students, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.

“The journey begins again towards next year’s championships in Dublin.

“I’d like to thank everyone who supported the team along the way through encouragement and fund raising.

‘‘Watch this space - Stonehaven has some great fighters who are destined for great things and some exciting times ahead.”
