Lion’s Den Stonehaven are going from strength to strength and placing themselves as one of the best martial arts clubs in the country.
Head coach, Malcolm Evans, and five of his students recently returned from the WKC World Kickboxing Championships in Dublin and didn’t come back empty handed.
Competing for Scotland over the six-day event starting on October 4, the group had a successful tournament and brought back three gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
There were two golds for Dean Sutherland and one for Jamie Sutherland, silver for Nicola Evans, a silver and a bronze for Garth Hendry and another bronze for Andrew Ewen.
Malcolm said the Lions Den members were helping place Stonehaven and Scotland on the map.
He added: “We had a very successful time and placed Scotland and Stonehaven firmly on the world map, returning with three gold, two silver and two bronze.
‘‘it was a fantastic experience and now the hard work begins again as we aim for the 2015 Championships in Orlando, Florida.
“As head coach of both the Lion’s Den and Scotland squad, I couldn’t be prouder of everyone and it just goes to show if you put the work in you get the rewards you deserve.
“Lion’s Den is a fantastic club for students of all ages and has a great family feel where you can really achieve your goals what ever they might be.”
The showing follows on from more good news as Dean was recently crowned the new ISKA junior full contact World Champion in Dundee. He face tough Brazillian oppenent Lucas Fernandes at The Bonar Hall.
Malcolm added: “Where to start with Dean I couldn’t be prouder of all his achievements with Lion’s Den Stonehaven so far and it’s hard to believe he is still only 15 and not only achieving his Black Belt and numerous national and international titles but now the pinnacle of any fighter a World Title.
“Dean has such commitment and discipline towards his training and is a joy to coach without doubt there is a huge exciting future ahead for Dean. A lot of famous sports people could take a leaf out of Deans book with regards to being a role model he certainly leads by example.”
