Mixed fortunes for local teams in finals

The Grampian Finals Day saw a full day of end-to-end basketball at The Beach Leisure Centre in Aberdeen on Saturday, March 23, with players aged from nine to 49 years!

The Arduthie Primary under-12 girls team were once again up against Fraserburgh Storm – the team which they hadn’t succeeded in beating all season!

Arduthie played some great team basketball, and at the end of the first quarter, it was looking like it was going to be a close game, with Arduthie only trailing by one point (5-6).

However, Fraserburgh pulled away in the second and third quarters, leaving too big a gap to close in the fourth.

The final score was 16 to Arduthie and 33 to Fraserburgh.

The top points scorers for Arduthie were Maisie James and Jenny Bruce.

Meanwhile, Portlethen Panthers’ under 12 boys team played Alford in their final.

It was a close game at times, with the Panthers allowing Alford to catch up on points on a few occasions.

However, the depth of strength in the Panthers team saw them take a convincing win by 39 points to 28.

The top points scorers for Panthers were Bradley Wood and Peter Bruce.
