It was out with the old guard and in with the new last week for the Banchory men’s volleyball team in their away match against Bon Accord in Laurencekirk.
With a number of the regular team members unavailable, four players made their match debuts en masse: Leo Thomson, Ben Strachan and Kazio Wilowski, who have all come up through the club’s youth development programme, and Mirjam Green, who joined this season.
With regular stalwarts Cory Amundrud, Marek Wilowski and Rene Van der Wal providing the supporting framework, the new players slotted in to their court positions really well and did the team proud.
Although Bon Accord won the fixture, Banchory kept them on their toes and held them to a very respectable 25-19, 25-19 scoreline.
Coach Amundrud was delighted with the enthusiasm and on-court commitment of the debutants.
