With only 5 counting weeks remaining in the winter League it is still all to play for in the 3 qualifying categories
In the scratch doubles the front runners are Barry McGillivary and Stuart Dempster averaging 62.8 over there 10 qualifying rounds, with the pairings of Harry Roulston and Neil Irvine and Graeme McFarlane and Grant Robb also looking likely to qualify with average scores in the low 64s region, this being the case only one spot would be up for grabs.
Three teams are probably fighting it out for the remaining spot, last year’s champions Kevin Riddell and Ross McAllan, Colin Arthur and Alan Officer and Kenny Duncan and Ian Wood, the remaining teams in the ‘scratch pack’ would have to turn around their scores considerably to break into the top four.
The handicap doubles is always more difficult to call until the scratch qualifiers are known but the pairings of Stuart Campbell and Mike Halliday along with John Neal and Douglas Henderson look likely to make it with average scores in the high fifty’s, also in contention and fighting it out for the two remaining spots are Alister Barnett and Tom Simpson.
Evergreen Jim Lonie is well out in front for one of the eight qualifying place in the singles, it’s all to play for behind him with many possible permutations to come but Steve McGhie and Murray Bruce also look as if they have done enough at this stage.
Last Thursday saw Bert Butchart become Captain of the Golf Club at the Annual General meeting after thanking past Captain Terry Middleton for all his hard work during the last two years Ivan Groundwater was proposed and accepted to be Vice Captain, other new additions to the full council were Chris Taylor and Caroline Duncan.
