Wrestling action returns to Stonehaven this May with bodyslams and hip-tosses set to fill the air at the Town Hall.

The WrestleZone event on Saturday May 2 will see the local grapplers engage in family-friendly action with just three weeks left until the group’s biggest event of the year at the Aberdeen Beach Ballroom.

One grappler looking to book a slot on the huge supercard is the current holder of the tag team championships, Shawn Johnson.

“Sensational” Shawn (27) faces rival Aspen Faith in singles competition with the Hotshot looking to earn a spot at the supershow featuring ex-WWE stars D’Von Dudley, Hardcore Holly and Chris Masters.

Shawn continued: “Stonehaven is the final stop on the road to Aberdeen Anarchy and I’m really looking to put my name in the mix for the Beach Ballroom.

“The last two years have been great for me in Stonehaven; just two years ago, I won the tag team championships and last year the Hotshots were victorious too.

“But I know competition for places on the Beach Ballroom supershow is fierce and I will have to show something extra in my bout against Aspen.”

Johnson has risen through the WrestleZone ranks to become the most successful tag team champion in the group’s history.

His partnership with Bryan Tucker has seen them pick-up the tag team belts four times – but Johnson knows he faces a big challenge when he takes on the “King of Catch” Aspen Faith in Stonehaven.

He added: “Aspen has all the technical abilities and I will need to be wary of the threat he poses.

“He will want to show his dominance in this match too. It all makes for an exciting night under the bright lights and I hope to be the one with my hand raised in victory at the end.”

The event marks the last stop on the road to Aberdeen Anarchy and WrestleZone host Martyn Clunes expects a pulsating night of action.

He added: “This is everyone’s last chance to impress and that makes for a great night at the town hall.

“We go right across the North-east, from Arbroath to Fraserburgh, and Stonehaven is one of our favourite venues. The fans always give the wrestlers great support and we hope to reward them with an exciting night of action this May.”

Also scheduled for wrestling action at the event is Scotty Swift, who is set to challenge for the Undisputed Championship at the Beach Ballroom. He will team with former champion Crusher Craib in a huge main event bout.

Doors open at 7pm with the action underway from 7.30pm. More information is available by calling 07855 121777 or visiting www.wrestlezonescotland.co.uk.
