Saints reach cup final

St Laurence went into this Barclay Cook Cup semi-final with several key players missing through suspension and work commitments, knowing that they had to overcome a team that had already knocked out local rivals Luthermuir from another cup competition.

St Laurence came out of the traps well and Myles went round the keeper but didn’t have enough power in his shot to give his side the lead.

Glendale then had a chance themselves when a deep cross was side footed goalwards but it came back off the post and St Laurence managed to scramble clear.

St Laurence were given the chance to take the lead when Myles was fouled inside the box and the referee awarded a penalty. Ryan Arthur failed to score from the spot with the keeper saving well to his right.

The Saints continued to press and were awarded another penalty, this time Blair McCombie went round the Glendale defender but was pulled to the ground. Jordan Mlyes made no mistake from the spot.

St Laurence took a well-deserved lead into the second half, but this was short lived, not long after the restart, a cross-cum-shot found Hadden off his line and the ball looped in at the back post.

Both teams battled the second half out, with Glendale going closest to making the break through, but Hadden made several great saves to keep the Saints in the game and force the tie into extra time.

St Laurence made several changes and continued to push in the first half of extra time, first Harley went close when a deep corner found him unmarked at the back post but he failed to make much contact with his header.

Hadden was forced to make a few crucial saves before St Laurence took the lead. Cameron raced down the left and drove a low cross towards goal. Both Ryan Arthur and the Glendale keeper failed to meet the cross and Doug Harley converted on the back post.

St Laurence stretched their lead in the second half of extra time when Myles looped a ball over the keeper from a tight angle and Harley grabbed his second of the game to send the Saints into the final. Match Sponsor was Hantons Garage.
