Saints up against it

WHEN matches finally resume in the Aberdeenshire Amateur League, St Laurence will have a mountain to climb if they are to escape relegation out of Division Two North.

After 12 games, the Saints are still looking for their first league win. They have drawn at home to Hayloft and away to Glentanar Reflex for their only two points to date.

Leaders Rattray's X1 have beaten St Laurence heavily home and away, but many of their matches have been close. The unfortunate Saints have lost no fewer than five games by the odd goal.

With three teams scheduled to go down to Division Three, things look grim for the Saints, but they can be guaranteed to fight until the final whistle of the season.

In cup competition, the Laurencekirk side lost 6-2 at home to Kemnay Youth in the Scottish Amateur Cup and 5-3 away to Lads' Club in the North of Scotland Cup.

A walkover against Hayloft in the League Cup keeps their interest in that competition alive.
