Season best forgotten

SEASON 2009-10 will go down as a season best forgotten by St Laurence FC.

The Saints struggled from the start and only took one league point all season, a 2-2 draw away to fellow relegated side, Glentanar Reflex.

They did draw 3-3 at home to Hayloft, but Hayloft dropped out of the league and that match was declared void.

To add insult to injury, the Saints were deemed to have infringed the rules on registration of a player and were penalised 12 points, meaning they finished on minus eleven.

At home, the Saints only lost 1-0 against Division Two North champions Lads Club Amateurs and 2-1 to Uni Strollers who were fourth.

The worst home defeat was 9-0 against Monymusk.

Away from home, the Laurencekirk side were beaten by a single goal margin no fewer than six times, including 2-1 against promoted Hilton and 1-0 against Rothie Rovers, who beat both Luthermuir and Johnshaven in cup competition.

The Saints were never thrashed away from home and their worst defeat was 4-0 against promoted Rattray's X1.

The full St Laurence league record was Lads Club L0-1 (h) L0-2 (a); Hilton L0-4 (h) L1-2 (a); Rattray's X1 L2-7 (h) L0-4 (a); Uni Strollers L1-2 (h) L0-2 (a); Rothie Rovers L1-4 (h) L0-1 (a); Grammar Rovers L0-3 (h) L1-3 (a).

Highland Hotel L2-5 (h) L1-2 (a); Trophies International L1-5 (h) L3-5 (a); Kemnay Youth L1-3 (h) L1-2 (a); Newburgh L1-5 (h) L1-2 (a): Monymusk L0-9 (h) L2-3 (a); Glentanar Reflex L1-4 (h) D2-2 (a).

The Saints scored ten goals at home and conceded 52 and scored 12 away, conceding 30 for an overall F22 A82.

Saints lost 6-2 to Kemnay Youth in the Scottish Cup, 5-3 to Lads Club in the North of Scotland Cup and scratched against Torry United in the AFC Trophy.

They lost 6-2 to eventual winners Hilton in the Castle Rovers Cup.

Chris Fenby was top scorer with seven goals, one ahead of Peter Manson.

Other totals were Johnston with four, Harley with three, Murray Leitch, Neil Reid and Macaulay with two and Gareth Reid, Duncan and Metelski with one.
