St Laurence record greatest win in club’s history

St Laurence went into this Quarter Final on the back of 7-1 victory against Trophies international in the same cup, and also beating their opponents 7-0 on a previous outing.

St Laurence started the game brightly and it wasnt long before they were in front. Great link up play allowed for a deep cross to be headed home by R.Arthur at the back post.

St Laurence were totally dominant and J.Myles went through several times but failed to convert. St Laurence doubled their lead when J.Borland latched on to a great ariel win by R.Arthur and slotted it past the keeper. J.Borland nearly grabbed his second of the day when a corner was cleared by the postal defence but got only as far as Borland who smashed a 25yard volley goalward only for it to be cleared off the line.

N.Arthur and B.McCombie dominated the centre of the park and released R.Arthur who smashed home for just outside the box to put them 3-0 in front. St Laurence continued to raise the tempo of the game and the visitors struggled to keep a hold of the ball. Some great work down the left by G.Reid allowed P.Cameron in, to smash home.

B.McCombie scored a contender for goal of the season, a stunning left footed volley back across goal from 25yards found its way into the back of the net. J.Borland grabbed the sixth of the game, great play by B.Mcombie and K.Bruce released Borland through on goal and he made no mistake to get his second. Borland then went on to complete his hatrick, a solo effort down the left beating several players, before slotting the ball past the advancing goal keeper. Postal managed to grab a goal back but it was against the run of play, a St Laurence corner was cleared and found a Postal player high up the pitch and he scrabbled the ball over the line just beating G.Hadden in the St Laurence goal. J.Myles then went on to score his first and second of the game within a minute of one another. Firstly he beat two players on the wing before smashing a right foot shot, low and hard to the keepers right who failed to get down to it, then straight from the kick off R.Arthur intercepted a through ball and released Myles who made no mistake and calmy slotted it home.

R.Arthur also completed a first half hatrick. J.Borland and K.Bruce combined well, and a low driven cross found Arthur sliding in at the back post to make it 10-1 at half time.

St Laurence made several changes at half time, but continued the scoring. Firstly K.Bruce smashed a shot goal-ward for the keeper to fumble the ball into his own net. J Myles completed his hatrick and finished his scoring for the day, a great ball over the top found Myles clear on goal to round the keeper and finish with style. B.McCombie grabbed his second of the day, C.Fenby raced clear down the right cutting a ball back for McCombie to side foot home. St Laurence were totally dominant throughout the game, keeping possession and playing the passing game. J.Borland raced clear only to be fouled in the box, he unselfishly passed the ball to B.McCombie to complete his hatrick from the spot. Liam Middelton also got on the score sheet, he played a one two with N.Arthur and stroked a lovely shot low and hard past the goal keeper.

St Laurence continued to press and continued to make things worse for the opposition. C.Fenby and L.Middeleton combined well and sent B.McCombie through on goal. He calmy raced through and cheekily chipped the goal keeper with ease taking his total to four. D.Harley grabbed a goal when a ball was driven a cross goal and he slid in to convert from close. N.Arthur was next to get in on the action, a great run from inside his own half paid off, with a great through ball from B.McCombie, allowed Arthur to slot past the keeper. C.Fenby completed the scoring shortly after hitting the post, he went past several players as if they weren’t there, and fired home from 20yards.

The score line of 19-1, sets two new club records, one for most goals scored for, in a game, and the other for most hatricks in one game with R.Arthur, J.Borland, J.Myles and B.Mccombie + 1 all grabbing three or more goals.
