St Laurence season review

ST LAURENCE FC can look back on a 2008-09 Aberdeenshire Amateur League season in which they finished seventh in the 13-team Division Three.

Highlight for the Saints was a 3-2 away win over league runners-up Ellon Amateurs in October. They also beat Trophies International at home.

They drew at home to Mearns United and away to Trophies and drew both home and away against Don Athletic.

St Laurence had a home record of W6 D2 L4 F23 A25 and an away record of W4 D2 L6 F19 A35 for an overall W10 D4 L10 F42 A60 Pts 34.

Their complete league record was Hilton L0-4 (h) L0-8 (a); Ellon L0-2 (h) W3-2 (a); Highland Hotel L2-4 (h) L1-8 (a); Mearns United D2-2 (h) L0-1 (a); Trophies W2-1 (h) D2-2 (a); Don Athletic D1-1 (h) D0-0 (a).

St Laurence won only one cup-tie during the season, 2-1 against Don Athletic in the Chattan Rovers Cup. They then lost 2-1 to Ellon in the quarter-final.

The Scottish Cup saw a 5-3 defeat against Division Two side Huntly and the North of Scotland Cup was a 4-2 defeat against Division One side Grammar Rovers.

Newburgh from their own division beat them in the AFC Trophy and the Dickie Trophy saw an 8-0 thumping against Stoneywood Amateurs from Division Two. The Saints scored nine cup goals.

Scott McCombie was top scorer with 18 goals, 17 of them in the league. He was followed by Craig Fraser with seven, Doug Harley with five, Jamie Johnston with four and Paul Durrand and Murray Leitch with three.

Ryan Mackie, Duncan, Manson and Macaulay scored two and there were single goals from Andy Mackie, Jaffray and Bloomfield.
