Winning run continues
Johnshaven 5 Newmachar United 3 JOHNSHAVEN continued their bid for a strong finish to the season with a home win over Newmachar on Saturday.
In the opening minutes Milne put in Ross Blease whose angled shot went past the post.
From the resulting goal kick Milne won the ball and put in McKay whose shot was deflected round the post. The resulting corner by Milne went to McKay but his shot went agonisingly wide.
Johnshaven took the lead in the 10th minute. A corner by Milne was partially cleared and the ball fell to Smith who hit a low angled 25 yard shot, which found the bottom corner of the net.
In the 20th minute a Newmachar free kick cleared the wall and was parried by Lorenson but a Newmachar player was on hand to equalise.
A minute later Milne beat the offside trap but his shot was saved by the Newmachar keeper at his near post.
In the 31st minute a Newmachar free kick again cleared the wall. Lorenson pushed the ball on to the post and unfortunately for Johnshaven it rebounded off him into the net to put Newmachar into the lead.
Five minutes later a corner by Dalgarno was played into the six yard box where a Newmachar player handled. Ross Blease converted the penalty to level the score at 2-2.
In the 40th minute a Newmachar shot rattled the Johnshaven bar. The rebound was partially cleared by a defender but a Newmachar player to hit the ball on the half volley in off the post to put them back into the lead.
In the opening minute of the second half McKay put the ball through to Milne who knocked it back to Smith but his first time shot went past the post.
In the 52nd minute Smith was running in on goal when a Newmachar defender barged him off the ball. The referee awarded a penalty, which Ross Blease converted to level the scores once more.
A couple of minutes later Newmachar had the ball in the back of the Johnshaven net but the referee indicated the player had used his hand so the goal was disallowed.
On the hour mark, Ross Blease crossed for McKay to sidefoot just over the bar.
Johnshaven took the lead for the first time since the tenth minute in 76 minutes. Cruickshank played a long ball up to Leven who ran into the box and had a shot saved. The rebound fell to Cruickshank who from close range pushed the ball home.
In the 83rd minute Johnshaven made a double substitution when Leon Dundas replaced Smith and Beedie replaced McKay.
Just on the final whistle Leon Dundas passed to Beedie whose first time shot flew into the back of the net to secure three valuable points for Johnshaven.
Newmachar were reduced to 10 men when they had a player sent off.
Man of the Match was Ross Blease.
