Stonehaven Folk Club welcomes internationally-acclaimed singer, songwriter and guitar maestro, Martin Simpson, tomorrow (Friday).
Tickets sold out for this long-waited event over six weeks ago and no wonder. Martin is widely regarded and acknowledged as one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world.
A club spokesperson said: ‘‘There is no one who has more successfully combined the diverse elements of British, Afro-American and old-time music than Martin Simpson.
‘‘His career includes collaborations on stage and record with Richard Thompson, June Tabor, Jackson Browne, Danny Thompson, Martin Carthy, Cara Dillon, Martin Taylor and many others.’’
Martin has been nominated an astounding 26 times in the 12 years of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards - more than any other performer - with nine consecutive years as nominee for Musician of The Year, which he has won twice.
Club chairman Andy Popplestone said:P “It’s fantastic to get such an acclaimed artist guest at the club and both very gratifying to have sold out many weeks ago and frustrating that we have had to disappoint so many people who are still phoning up looking for tickets.
“We do regret we will not be able to admit anyone without a ticket. Fortunately those disappointed can still get to see Martin at Montrose Folk Club today (Thursday).”
Martin is appearing at 8.30 pm in the Lower Community Centre, Bath Street.
