It is all go for the organisers of this year’s much-anticipaterd Stonehaven Folk Festival which gets under way next Thursday, July 10.
In addition to the main evening concerts in the Town Hall there will be a whole host of fringe activities throughout the Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13.
This year, the festival has expanded the regular Saturday “Plainstones” free concert to include Sunday afternoon and they will also be sharing the square with the Continental Market - something which worked well last year.
On Friday and Saturday (July 11-12) there will be two workshops especially for younger musicians; the “Junior Jammers” and the “Youth Big Band.” These will be led by one of the festival guests, Mischa Mcpherson, and are an ideal opportunity to play together as a group with the chance to play at one of the festival concerts.
There will also be a wide range of workshops for all ages and abilities, including the Big Sing – for anyone who has ever fancied trying to sing in a large group, you’ve seen it on telly – try it for real; the “Wee Big Sing” for younger singers; plus Junior Ukulele to Fiddle Master Classes. See the web site for a full listing.
There will also be hosted sessions and sing-arounds plus the World Paper’n’Comb championships (Saturday) with a Tartan theme for Homecoming and the Aqua Ceilidh (Sunday) in the Open Air Pool. This is always a popular event, with something special this year to help celebrate the pool’s 80th birthday.
There will be an Open Mike in the Legion on Friday night and a late night concert on Saturday night.
Tickets for the Main Concerts are almost sold out but may still be purchased for personal callers at Celtic Chords in Barclay Street or by calling the ticket line – 07766 581596.
