Stonehaven Gardening Club are ready to spring into action with their 2014 programme of activities planned for the forthcoming season.

The committee were delighted with last year’s response from members and non members alike.

Participation in the clubs numerous and varied events showed a marked increase and it is hoped that the club can build upon last seasons success.

A spokesperson said: ‘‘ The recent interest is especially encouraging given that many of those involved are not necessary experienced gardeners. The interest shown from the very young taking part in last year’s “Grow the Tallest Sunflower Competition” again demonstrates a healthy interest in growing plants even in the very young.

‘‘Much of the club’s recent success can be attributed to the support received from the Mearns Leader, Aberdeenshire Council’s Kincardine & Mearns Area Committee, Kirktown Garden Centre, MacDougall & Masson, Stonehaven Joinary Services, Brickfield Motors, Carpet Design, Charles McHardy, David Waldies, Leslies of Stonehaven and B&A Hydraulics Altens.

‘‘ The support of the council and these local businesses has helped the club maintain and develop these popular annual community events.

‘‘Details of the club’s 2014 events programme are now available.

‘‘ It should be noted that it has been necessary to revise the dates of the Plant Sale, May 31, and the Summer Show now scheduled for August 30.

‘‘There will be no Spring Show this year however, a number of key categories specific to the last Spring Show such as have been included in the Summer Flower/Floral Art Show.’’
