The sound of success
Two Aberdeenshire bands scooped gold awards at the Scottish Concert Band Festival finals in Perth last weekend.
The Mackie Academy Concert Band, led by music instructor Sarah Gove, took first place in the Achieving School Band category, while Aberdeenshire South/Central Youth Concert Band, led by music instructor Bruce Wallace, took gold in the Youth Band Class and walked away with the Festival Entertainment Award.
Aberdeenshire Council’s director of Education, Learning and Leisure, Maria Walker, said: “Congratulations to the youngsters and music instructors who gave up their time and effort to prepare for this competition. Aberdeenshire schools have a great reputation for music, and this is a fantastic way for our young people’s talent to be recognised.”
The staff involved included brass instructors Bruce Wallace and Robert Fraser, woodwind instructors Sarah Gove and Hannah Hilton and percussion instructor Morag Kelly.
