Work on Stonehaven’s long-awaited all-weather pitch facility is set to kick off after the contractor was appointed last Thursday.
Members of the Stonehaven Community All Weather Surface Facility Committee (SCAWSFC) have chosen their preferred contractor, Hunter Construction, and work is due to start on April 20.
The contract will last for 14 weeks.
Douglas Samways, chair of SCAWSFC, said: “It feels like we have taken an age to get to this point but it is great that we are now here and construction is to get under way shortly.
“The committee was really pleased that they will have the long awaited and much needed facilities.”
Mr Samways said that some events were due to take place at Mineralwell during the construction phase. However, he was confident these events would go ahead at the venue.
He added: “There are two events scheduled to take place during construction. We are keeping in contact with these groups to keep them informed with what is happening. I am sure these events will go ahead at Mineralwell.”
SCAWSFC will now turn their attention to the management side of the All Weather Facilities.
Stonehaven and District Community Council agreed to be the applicant back in 2013 which saw them foot the planning application costs.
The project will turn one of the existing pitches at Mineralwell Park into the all-weather facility which will be suitable for football and rugby. Another area of the park will see a pitch suitable for netball and basketball, which would be available to schools and the community.
