Aberdeenshire and Moray Road Safety Advisors have found that a shocking 68% of child car seats have been fitted incorrectly.
Police Scotland held a number of clinics in August and September across Aberdeenshire and Moray to check that the seats were correctly installed.
In total, 220 child seats were checked and 68% of these were found to be fitted incorrectly.
In 2012, it was found that 70% of these seats were wrongly fitted in the Aberdeenshire and Moray areas.
Of 220 seats that were checked at the community surgeries, 102 were found to have minor faults, 29 had major faults and 18 we found to be incompatible with the car or child.
Road safety advisor June Andrew said: “The child car seat clinics were really well attended and it was a valuable opportunity for members of the public to have their child seats checked for free.
“It is important that they are fitted correctly and we are here to offer suitable advice and assistance.
“We are not here to judge but would much rather people came to have the seats checked.’’
