Auchenblae will be buzzing with activity next Saturday (May 2), as residents come together to raise money for a local cause.
The Auchenblae Auction will take place in the village hall from 11am-2pm, and promises to be a fun day for anyone who comes along.
Money is being raised to help raise funds to pay for repairs to the framework behind all three clock faces on the church clock tower in the village. The northern clock face fell from the building, owing to storm winds, in January of this year, and the remaining dials were taken down as a safety precaution.
Since then, the community of Auchenblae have been trying to raise the estimated £5,000 needed to carry out the necessary work to reinstate the clock faces, which have been missed by residents in recent months.
It is hoped that the Silent Auction next week will help contribute to the repairs, as well as provide a great day out.
The entry charge of £1 covers a ‘discreet bidder number’ and complimentary coffee, while for just £4 a homemade soup and sweet lunch will be served between 11.30am and 4pm.
There will be genuine bargains to pick up at the 50p, £1 and £2 tables as well as the ‘White Elephant Extravanganza’ where a huge variety of interesting bits and pieces, inlcuding costume jewellery, will be on offer. The ‘Silent Auction’ tables will display many quality collectable items: Korean ceramic vases; soapstone boxes; early oil industry memoribilia; china ware; railway books; as well as rare local photographs and postcards among much more.
At 1.30pm a bell will ring to announce that the auction will close in 15 minutes, to give bidders a chance to get in any last minute bids.
All proceeds will go towards the refurbishment and replacement of the clock faces on Auchenblae Church Tower. For further information please contact Jenny Thomson on (01561) 320425.
