Auchenblae Community Association organised a varied programme for Gala Week.
Sunday’s Kite Flying was followed by Childrens races, enjoyed by the enthusiastic participants, with football organised by Mark Robinson. Tuesday’s entertainment was a Quiz Night by Kevin Newstead, won by the Hodgson family.
Monday’s gale force winds forced the postponement of the Childrens Walking Treasure Hunt until Wednesday with over 70 children taking part. On Thursday many Car Treasure Hunt enthusiasts followed an interesting route compiled by Helen Ritchie and Catriona Page, won by the Hillbillies, joint runners up Jim’ll Fix It and Hilda Herald & Co.
Friday was Children’s Party Night when over 80 children were entertained, firstly by a Teddy Bears Picnic, followed by a Film Show, complete with popcorn and icecream. Gala Day on Saturday, in the beautiful setting of the Den, attracted an exceptionally large attendance with activities to suit all ages, bouncy castle, varied stalls, barbecue and teas. The winner of the first prize of £100 in the 500 Duck Derby was Davie Lindsay 2nd Prize £50 won by Nick Williams with the prize for the last duck going to Bethany Clark.
Bowlers from a large area competed in a seven end competition, won by Bill Brandie (Fettercairn), runner up Jim Diack (Fettercairn). Live music by The Trybe entertained an enthusiastic crowd enjoying the brilliant sunshine and happy atmosphere of a superb village Gala Day. The activities concluded with the prize Raffle.
