At the meeting of February 10, Ian Taylor of Taylor’s Auctioneers gave an interesting talk on antiquities of today and Scottish artists.
Ian explained that articles of today, although they may have been costly when purchased some time ago, realise very little at auction nowadays, as the younger generation are not interested in the “treasures” of their predecessors.
Ian then displayed a selection of Scottish artists work, ranging in value from £15K to £90K and gave a brief history of the artist and a description of the painting. The members were then invited to judge the commercial value of each painting from a multiple choice price range. After a lengthy discussion and many questions, expertly answered, John Gillespie proposed thanks.
