Captain speaks to club

Captain Robbie Middleton FNI, who was to have spoken to Stonehaven Ladies Probus Club in January, kindly changed places with the intended speaker who was unable to attend.

The ladies were given a very interesting account of Robbie’s life at sea.

With a plentiful supply of slides to illustrate his talk, he told how he decided at the age of eleven that he wanted to be a captain and with that in mind, he joined the sea cadets.

He attended the School of Navigation in Robert Gordon College which led to him eventually joining his first ship.

Service on a second and third ship saw him in the Mediterranean and he became a captain by the age of 33.

Marriage and two daughters later, he took the family round the world before settling down to life in Scotland.

A vote of thanks was given by Frances Gilroy, apologies for absence were read out, appreciation of a previous visit to CLAN was mentioned and a forthcoming theatre visit discussed.

Finally, members were reminded that the Christmas lunch would be held on Tuesday December 11 at the Station Hotel.
