A fundraising casino night in aid of Finlay’s Fund, raised over £3000 at the Stonehaven town hall at the weekend.
The charity set up five years ago for a Stonehaven youngster, raised £3235.45 with the dress to impress casino night.
Seven-year-old Finlay Sangster, who attends Mill o’ Forest Primary School, suffers from cerebral palsy, and his family organise a fundraiser every year to help pay for expensive equipment and therapies to help make his life a little easier.
Finlay’s mum Gail told the Leader: “Over 100 people attended the event, the majority of whom were treated to a surprise speech by Finlay himself (he had recorded a wee message to be played over the PA system) thanking everyone for their support and how the money raised by the fund helps him - there were a few tears from the guests after this!
The playing tables were busy throughout the 3 hours of play, there were a few who wished it was real money they were playing with.
“At the end of play the players were asked to cash in their winnings to allow us to identify the winner of the overnight stay for 2 at Ardoe House Hotel, including a 3 course dinner with wine, breakfast and full use of the spa facilities. The prize was won by Chic James of Stonehaven.
“Yet again we were completely overwhelmed by the generosity of the community, local businesses and our friends and family.
“Bruce and I are so touched by the continued support of everyone involved, we couldn’t do this without our fantastic committee members.
“We would also like to say how proud we are of Finlay, his speech melted our hearts - he’s turning into an amazing young man who is very aware and grateful of the support he receives from the fund.”
