Stonehaven’s Red Cross Shop celebrated the 25th anniversary of its opening last week with a presentation to its dedicated team of volunteers.
The shop opened on November 10 1990 with seven volunteers but this week 42 volunteers celebrated the 25th anniversary.
Three volunteers, Maggie Patterson, Jenny Murray and Margaret MacPherson were part of the original seven and were recognised with 25 years service awards. In total 180 years service were handed out at last weeks awards.
Also recognised were Mary Milne (10 years), Maggie McKinnon (20 years), Alice MacGregor (20 years) and Isobel Stephen (5 years).
Run entirely by a team of volunteers from its opening until 2005 when a full-time shop manager was appointed, the team has grown and now over 43 volunteers help out at the busy shop putting in an extraordinary 198 hours of volunteering each week.
Kat Bissett Shop Manager has thanked staff this week for all their dedication and support.
She said: “What a fantastic team we have. They are a truly inspirational group of people who give up their free time and work hard to raise much needed funds to help those most in need.
We are forever grateful for their dedication as we couldn’t do any of it without them. We would also like to thank all our loyal customers and donors for their un-ending support as with their generous donations and custom we are still here 25 years after we first opened in Stonehaven.”
