Chairman of the Friends of Denlethen voluntary group, David Young, retired from his role recently after holding the office for eight years.
The Friends of Denlethen are a voluntary group who work in partnership with Forestry Commission Scotland to maintain Denlethen Woods, 100 hectares of public access woodlands on the outskirts of Laurencekirk.
Volunteers meet regularly throughout the year to do path clearing, habitat maintenance and tree planting. There is also work with the local community, especially the local schools in engaging young people with the woods.
David has been credited with fund raising and initiation of a number of key projects at Denlethen over the last few years.
These have included creating the new pond system at the old curling pond, installation of new hard core paths and upgrading of parking facilities.
