Scottish pop favourites Deacon Blue are to star in Stonehaven’s hugely-popular Hogmanay Festival, Opena Air in the Square.
The chart-topping Glasgow group will headline the Aberdeenshire town’s Open Air In The Square party on December 31, this year.
Already OAITS have booked top Beatles tribute band “Them Beatles” to join the bill.
The Deacon Blue line-up consists of vocalists Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh, keyboard player James Prime and drummer Dougie Vipond. The current Deacon Blue guitarist is Gregor Philp and the current bass guitarist is Lewis Gordon.
Their biggest hits include “Dignity” and “Real Gone Kid”. As of 2012, Deacon Blue’s total album sales stood at six million, with twelve UK Top 40 singles, along with two UK number one albums.
The Stonehaven event - which is run by a volunteer committee - can attract up to 5,000 revellers and once again, because of the heavy costs involved, the organisers will be looking for grants and sponsors.
This year the organisers are staging a “Battle of the Bands” contest between acts around Scotland to compete for a performance slot at the Open Air In The Square 2015.
They have also launched a contest for designers to create a fresh and memorable new logo for the festival with a £200 cash prize, two VIP tickets to the event as well as fantastic exposure on most marketing material for the festival including the OAITS website, lanyards, stage screens and so on. The winner will be announced on April 4.
