The annual celebration of brewing is a not-for-profit event and this year has chosen to support the Stonehaven Fireballs Association, the Stonehaven Sea Cadets and a local fundraising drive for The Sandpiper Trust, which provides life-saving emergency equipment to doctors, nurses and paramedics.

Robert Lindsay, organiser of the festival which is being held from Thursdayto Saturday, November 7 - 9, said: “The community of Stonehaven always rises to the occasion to support the beer festival and we feel it is vital we support our community in turn.

‘‘That is why proceeds from the event always go to charities that improve Stonehaven and the lives of those who live here.

‘‘The fireballs are an iconic part of our town, with images of this traditional ceremony beamed around the world every Hogmanay.

‘‘ The sea cadets do so much to help give young people a great start in life and deserve every help they can ge and the Sandpiper Trust equips medical staff in local communities with emergency equipment and training that saves lives. What better use for the money raised through people having a great time at the Stonehaven Beer Festival?’’

The event, held at the Town Hall, is expected to attract around 2000 people over three days.

Robert added: “We couldn’t stage this event without the many volunteers who give freely of their time. That so many people come forward to help speaks volumes about the community spirit in Stonehaven, a giving spirit that we want to be part of.”

This year’s beer festival is sponsored by Stonehaven’s brewery, Six Degrees North. Other sponsors are Harviestoun Brewery (www.harviestoun.com ) and The Bay Fish and Chips, Stonehaven (www.thebayfishandchips.co.uk)
