Dunnottar Castle and Hornblowers Restaurant are celebrating this week after being shortlisted in the Scottish Thistle Awards 2014.

Both have been shortlisted in different categories in the North East and Tayside Regional Final which will be held on Tuesday, November 11.

The awards, which are run by VisitScotland, have had a record number of applications this year.

Dunnottar Castle has been nominated in the ‘Best Visitor Attraction’ category and Hornblowers Restaurant, in Gourdon, in the ‘Best Informal Eating Experience.’

Dunnottar Castle posted on their Facebook page: “ Dunnottar Castle has made it through to the regional finals in the North East and Tayside category for the Scottish Thistle Awards “Best Visitor Attraction of 2014”

‘‘If we are lucky to be selected on November 11, we will go through to the final.

“This would not be possible without the hard work of of everyone on our small team and those who work behind the scenes at the estate, nor without the thousands of visitors who visit the castle each year. “

Hornblowers owners, Alex and Ruth Grahame, said they were ‘‘over the moon’’ with the nomination.

Alex said: “This is the first time we’ve entered these awards and to be shortlisted for the final is so exciting.

“It’s such a great accolade for all our staff and suppliers, as they all make the restaurant a welcoming haven with our locally-sourced seasonal food.

“We try really hard to make the dining experience as relaxed as possible for our customers although, with the magnificent views we have of Gourdon harbour – which is one of the last small working village harbours in Scotland – it’s not too difficult a task.

“It’s fantastic all of this has been recognised for the Scottish Thistle Awards.

‘‘We are thrilled to be in the final.’’
