The eighth annual Stonehaven ‘Dip with a Nip.’ will see dippers run into the sea at Stonehaven Harbour at noon, raising funds for charity CLIC Sargent.

A team of six staff from Dunnottar Primary school in Stonehaven have signed up for the challenge dubbed the ‘Dunnottar Otters’ after the schools new motto ‘WE SHINE’.

The team of Lisa Williams, Caroline Gibson, Sarah Kelly, Erin Murray, Christina Wells and Claire Dinnett are looking to raise as much funds as possible due to the great work done by CLIC Sargent.

The teams Justgiving page states: “In August of this year a wee boy in P1 at the school in which we all teach was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour.

“We’re going to brave the icy waters of the North Sea on January 1st 2016 to raise money for CLIC Sargent. This fantastic charity provide practical and clinical support to the families of children and young people affected by cancer.”

One of the staff members has done the dip before with the rest signing up for the first time.

There is no registration fee for the 2016 event, participants are asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £100 for CLIC Sargent’s work with children and young people with cancer.

Last years Dip with a Nip saw 63 people take part raising over £8,000 for the children’s cancer charity.

Murray from Dunnottar Wines has presented the bottle of Whisky to Lead Dipper Michael Hopkins. This year is Michael’s 7th Lead Dipping and still remains a secret if going to retire and also what costume he is wearing.

Last year saw brave dippers in an array of costumes with the Dunnottar Otters planning to hold hands like sea otters in the harbour on the day. Good luck to everyone taking part on the day and see you there.
