Trumpets will sound to mark the retiral of Ewen Ritchie, principal teacher of guidance, after 34 years of service at Mackie Academy.

To mark his service and retirement, a celebration is to be held at the Stonehaven school on Saturday, June 21, in the form of a ‘Big Band Night.’

The band will be made up of music colleagues and pupils, past and present.

A two-course buffet dinner will be served during the evening which starts at 7.30pm.

Staff, parents and former pupils who wish to attend will be most welcome to take this opportunity to say thank you and farewell to Mr Ritchie, who began his teaching career in the music department in 1980.

He has served as principal teacher of music, assistant rector and depute rector.

However, he has been most at home as  principal teacher of guidance for Rickarton House.

Rector Louise Moir said: “I have only been at Mackie Academy for a short period but, during my time here, it is clear that Mr Ritchie is well regarded by staff, students and parents and will be missed by all.

“There are many things here at Mackie that just would not have happened without his input over the years and this will be sorely missed.

“As Rickarton House’s guidance teacher he has ensured the safe passage of many students through Mackie Academy .

‘‘We wish him all the best for the future.”

Tickets for this event can be purchased from Mackie Academy reception.

They will be available until June 7.

Tickets are £20 and guests are asked to take along their own refreshments..
