From Farm to Fork is an exciting outdoor learning experience which is specifically aimed at children of the primary school age.
It is now the turn of Kirriemuir’s primary school children to take part in the event as Margaret Leighton, the store manager at Kirriemuir Co-op, has organised it on Wednesday, November 7.
The children will be visiting Rosemount Farm in Blairgowrie from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
More than 65,000 primary school children have now experienced the world beyond the classroom through one of the Co-operative’s supervised farm visits. The aim of ‘From Farm to Fork’ outdoor learning experience is to help primary school children improve their understanding of where their food comes from and how it is grown.
The farm visits aim to inspire the children who take part to get passionate about food and fresh, good quality ingredients. The project aims to encourage children to also appreciate cooking with good food whilst bearing in mind its origins.
The Co-operative hope that children who have visited the farms will be encouraged to make healthier lifestyle choices about the food that they choose to eat.
From cereals to potatoes, cider apples, raspberries, strawberries and pears, the Co-operative produces a variety of foods farmed on more than 50,000 acres of land throughout the United Kingdom. They grow food for their stores and provide their customers with the very best of British produce.
For some of the children who take part in the ‘From Farm to Fork’ event it could possibly be the first time they have ever experienced the countryside and all that it has to offer.
The Co-operative, who aim to help the local community, also hope that they will leave with a great appreciation for the greater outdoors whilst also gaining an understanding of the importance of farming both in supplying food and protecting the wildlife within its natural habitat.
