Stonehaven’s Hollie Smith is preparing to round off a year-long fundraising campaign this April with a final throw of the dice.
The sixth-year Mackie Academy pupil and her mum are organising a fun casino, disco and karaoke fundraiser at the Station Hotel, Stonehaven, on Friday, April 10.
It is hoped that the proceeds generated from the evening will help Hollie to reach her £7400 goal to fund her Project Trust charity placement supporting an orphanage in Chile, South America.
The event will mark the culmination of her fundraising activity, which has already seen the teenager run the length of Chile [237.4miles] on a treadmill, organise a school ceilidh, a bake sale and fill smartie tubes.
Her campaign has also benefitted from many individual donations, and financial and in-kind support from local businesses.
As Hollie aspires to a career in social work, she knows the year-long volunteering placement will be a vital opportunity to gain relevant experience and will also be rewarding.
She said: “I spend my free time volunteering with Stonehaven After School Club and with LARC, an organisation for adults with additional needs. It’s something I have always enjoyed and just recently I started working with Inspire at one of their Stonehaven projects.
“I can’t wait to get to Chile and to help the young children out there and I’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone for all their support in helping me to achieve my dream.”
Tickets for the fundraiser cost £10 each and are available from Jenni Mac’s sandwich shop in Allardice Street, Stonehaven or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
