Investigating River Don for ramblers
two groups of Stonehaven Ramblers set off to walk in Aberdeen on Saturday.
The group doing the shorter walk covered six miles from Footdee to Brig o’ Balgownie, returning via Old Aberdeen.
The other group walked 11 miles and took in both banks of the River Don from its estuary to the Grandholme Bridge and on the way back visited St Machar Cathedral and Cruickshank Botanical Gardens.
The extent to which the banks of the river used to be industrialised was a revelation and the visit to the Walled Garden at Persley Den where there is a quiet oasis dedicated to the those who had lost their lives in the Construction Industry in and around Aberdeen, was a treat. Thanks to the two leaders.
Stonehaven Ramblers next walk is on Sunday September 4 to Glen Girnock. It is 7-8 miles easy/moderate. The leader is Sandra Davison 01561 378967.
