A Johnshaven family have turned purple in order to walk 13 miles in a sponsored walk for charity in memory of their wife and mother.
Mike Sangster and his boys, Fraser and Ross, had their hair dyed the vivid shade by Kirsty Best at Odysee Hair Design last Friday, September 18, to raise money for CLAN Cancer Support.
The Sangsters are raising the funds in memory of their mother and wife Amanda who sadly died of cancer last year.
Amanda had previously raised funds herself by having the people of Johnshaven vote for which hair colour she would choose. They chose purple all those years ago and Amanda donated half the total to Johnshaven Primary School and half to Crones disease charity as she also suffered from Crones.
Her family will be tackling CLAN’s Landmark Walk this coming Sunday which starts and finishes in Westburn Park and talks walkers around different sites in Aberdeen on the 13 mile walk.
Mike, who is a joiner in Johnshaven, said: “We are hoping to reach a total of £10,000 in memory of my wife, who was a wonderful woman.”
The family have already raised a staggering £7,500 through various fundraising activities, including completing last years CLAN sponsored walk and holding a band night in Johnshaven
Kirsty Best, who also coloured Amanda’s hair, said: “She was quite a shy person so when she said she wanted to die her hair for charity many people were surprised. She looked splendid with the purple locks and apparently enjoyed all the attention.”
Fraser and Ross both have Just Giving pages for donations to the charity which helped the family during the hard time they had with Amanda’s cancer. Last year the family took part in the Landmark walk raising £4,500 in the process.
CLAN is a local charity providing support to people affected by cancer, their family, carers and friends. In previous years walkers from Kincardine and Mearns have raised thousands for the charity by taking on the Landmark Walk.
