A Stonehaven chipper has been granted a late catering licence following the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee on Tuesday at Viewmount.
The Square on Market Square had applied for the late licence to trade until midnight Monday-Thursday and Sunday and until 3am on Friday and Saturday night.
The chipper is run by Hasan Genc who took over The Square in May this year.
Aberdeenshire council received a number of letters objecting to the application on noise, rubbish and public nuisance. Four of the objectors had the opportunity to speak at the meeting.
In a report to councillors for the meeting it stated: “The Environmental Health Service have no objection to the application bearing in mind that there are other establishments that have approval for similar periods. However, they point out that when other establishments were approved for similar hours that a trial period of one year was made to determine if any problems were going to arise from their operations. Due to the substantial increase in the operating times of The Square Fish and Chip Shop Restaurant and Take Away they ask that a similar trial period be given on this application.”
A motion was put forward by Cllr and area chair Carl Nelson which was seconded by Cllr Alison Evision to grant the licence for a trial period of one year. An amendment was proposed by Cllr Raymond Christie and seconded by Cllr Graeme Clark. The motion was carried by nine votes to two. The licence is not due to take effect for the premises until the end of the month. Let us know what you think: firstname.lastname@example.org
