As we approach Guy Fawkes day, we have taken a look at the local bonfire and firework displays that you can attend in the area this weekend.
Sturday, November 5 sees the Newtonhill Village Association Fireworks and BBQ in the grounds of the Bettridge Centre.
Entry is by donation, and there will be a BBQ, glow sticks and tuck stall from 6.30pm. The fireworks begin at 7.30pm.
Stonehaven’s Firework Display will be on Sunday November 6, from 6-8pm at Mineralwell Park. Gates open at 6pm, and the bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm, with the fireworks starting at 7pm. Entry is £3 for adults and £1 for children, with novelty light up swords on sale for £4.
Food and drink will be available to buy on site.
In Bervie, the fireworks display will also be on Sunday November 6 at the Lower Caravan Park. The bonfire will be lit at 6pm, fireworks start at 6.30pm, although organisers havw warned that these times are approximate. Soup and Hot dogs will be available to purchase.
As fire and rescue workers gear up for their busiest weekend of the year, the Fire Fighter Charity is calling on members of the public to attend organised displays and is also asking people to donate in support of injured firefighters, rather than risking accidents and injury with fireworks at home. The Charity has launched #firefightersnight as a social media campaign and is asking members of the public to text FIRE to 70660 to donate £3. They provide rehabilitation and psychological support to firefighters and their families.
It helps over 5,000 people a year, including firefighters injured on duty or who require mental health support to come to terms with the distressing nature of emergencies they may attend.
