LAURENCEKIRK men David Bowie and Stuart Kelly are to run the London Marathon on April 17.
They are running to raise funds for Huntington’s Disease Scotland, a disease from which David’s mother and Stuart’s granny, Moira Marshall suffers.
David ran the marathon for the charity last year and raised a magnificent £5,000. This year he has been joined by his nephew Stuart and they hope to do as well again.
The two lads have to raise £1,000 each just to participate, something they have already done and they hope to raise much more before all the money is in.
Stuart’s employers, Ian and Fiona Greig of Mearns Motors are the duo’s main sponsors and at the garage last week, they handed over a sizeable cheque to Stuart and David, who were dressed in the Batman and Robin costumes in which they will run the 26 miles.
David and Stuart held a quiz in the Crown Inn on Friday and they have a race night in the St Laurence Hall on April 2.
Laurencekirk Gala Committee have given their support, as have Simpson Joinery, Charles Michie, Laurencekirk Post Office, Mearns Hardware, The Body Shop, Mossbank Breakers and Partylite.Yvonne Robertson of the Basin City Bootstompers held two social line dances and raised £500.
