On Wednesday October 12 49 students and six staff headed out to America for the third Mearns Academy Wild West trip.

After 24 hours travel they arrived in Los Angeles safely.

They went on to enjoy a day at Universal Studios, then visit Hollywood and Six Flags Magic Mountain Theme Park. Next the destination was Las Vegas but first they visited Calico Ghost Town and had Lunch at Peggy Sue’s 50’s diner. While in Las Vegas they took in the bright lights and Bellagio Dancing Fountains, ate at the Hard Rock Hotel and Planet Hollywood. The next stage took them to Williams Arizona but on the way the experienced the “Over the Edge” Helicopter and boat trip into the awesome Grand Canyon, possibly the most jaw-dropping part of a thrill filled experience. From Williams they boarded the Grand Canyon Railroad for a more sedate but amusing journey to the West Rim of the Canyon. Next day after a Bone-rattling Hummer tour into Red Rock Country in Sedona they arrived at Saguaro Lake Ranch near Phoenix. Here they swam, kayaked and rode horses into the thorny Cactus festooned Wild West. After three special nights here they took their leave for Phoenix Airport, after a brief four hour shopping trip to Arizona Mills shopping Mall.

Throughout the trip the group were frequently complimented on their behaviour and courtesy. All of the pupils and staff enjoyed the experience immensely.
