The Mearns Leader and Mearns FM have joined forces to bring you two hours of weekly hightlights over the air.

The community radio station and your local newspaper have put pen to paper (pardon the pun!) on a deal that will see Mearns FM’s own Papa G bring you all the Mearns Leader Weekly Hightlights from 8 until 10am every Thursday - which is the same day that the publication comes out.

The two-hour time slot was launched last week by Leader and Kincardineshire Observer Editor Mike Rankin and Mearns FM Chairman Peter Greig.

Reporter Lee McCann joined Papa G on the first show last Thursday, which saw the pair discuss what stories had made the pages of the Leader that week.

Mr Rankin said: “I’ve always thought I had a face for radio and, as can be seen from the photograph, I’m not wrong.

‘‘Seriously, this is an excellent opportunity for the local newspaper and community radio station to cooperate in bringing the news to everyone and improve our information highway still further.

‘‘Mearns FM is a popular and well-supported radio station, and we are pleased to be working with them on behalf of our readership in Kincardine and the Mearns.’’

Mr Greig said: “Since joining Mearns FM back in 2010, and an avid reader of the Mearns Leader for longer, I always wondered if the two social media outlets couldn’t come together in some form, and now they have by featuring the ‘Leader Weekly Highlights.’

‘‘We will talk you through some of the highlights of that week with frequent visits by the Leader reporters to discuss them along with MFM Presenter Papa G who hosts his show every Thursday morning, 7-10.”

Mearns FM is broadcast on 105.7 in Stonehaven, 106.2 in Inverbervie and 107.3 in Laurencekirk. Visit
