The design for the Mearns Mosaic public art at the station has been revealed with the project due to be completed in late February. Alan Potter was commissioned to create the public artwork in September last year with funding coming from Aberdeenshire Councils‘Per Cent for Art’.
The ‘Per Cent for Art’ funding is sourced from the council’s planning gain/obligation money. Mr Potter was appointed by a steering group comprising representatives of Mearns Area Partnership, Howe o’ the Mearns Heritage Trust, Mearns Community Council, Mearns Youth Forum and Community Learning and Development Department.
The artwork will be more than 9m long and almost 2m high. The subject of the Mearns Public Art works was “The heritage of the Howe”.
