A fundraising coffee morning will take place in Newtonhill this weekend in aid of the Lauren Currie Twilight Foundation, which funds research into vasculitis.

Some 3000 people are diagnosed with the illness each year, and of those, 25% will not survive owing to misdiagnosis or late diagnosis.

Organiser Melanie Torrance said: ‘‘My dad was very lucky that there are

specialists in ARI with particular experience in vasculitis who diagnosed him quickly and got him the treatment he needed.

‘‘ The same cannot be said for 15-year-old Lauren Currie who, sadly, died of this treatable disease, as she was not diagnosed in time.

‘‘ Her parents have founded the Lauren Currie Twilight Foundation in her memory, to fund vasculitis research.’’

The coffee morning will take place in the Bettridge Centre in Newtonhill on Saturday, and Melanie will also be raising money for the charity when she takes part in the LCTF 5k in Duthie Park on Sunday May 11.

Adults £3, children £1.50 for tea, coffee, juice, pancakes, scones and cakes.
