Are you up for the challenge of 5K a day in May?

North-east charity Befriend a Child is inviting supporters to take on 5K a day for the month of May.

Befriend a Child is hoping many people will take up its challenge.

The challenge is being relaunched this year following its success in 2020 when more than 100 participants raised £17,804.13 for the children and young people the charity support.

Bethany Hoggan, fundraising manager, said: “Last year we were overwhelmed with the support and commitment of the participants of our 5K a day for the month of May challenge and we’re very excited to be bringing it back for 2021.

"Lockdown has been so tough for the children and families we support and we’re so grateful to anyone who decides to take on a challenge for us to raise funds and awareness for our cause.”

Befriend a Child’s 5K a day for the month of May challenge is accessible to all and encourages participants to run, jog, walk, cycle, skip or even dance their way to 5K every day for the month of May

Last year participants had to take on their 5K a day challenge with members of their own household in their local area.

This year participants can complete their 5K a day individually as a personal challenge, with friends and family outwith their household group, and use it as an opportunity to spend time outdoors or explore different areas of Aberdeenshire or with work colleagues as a team, turning the challenge into a competition.

The event costs only £5 to enter, with individuals being asked to try and raise £50 in sponsorship which will go towards supporting Befriend a Child’s programmes and projects for children and young people.

As part of the fee, participants will gain access to a closed Facebook 5K a day community where they can share their progress, post photos and access a multitude of resources to help them achieve their goal of 5K every day for 31 days.

There will be downloadable diaries and calendars as well as recipes from SJ Nutrition to keep participants properly fuelled; workout videos and fitness tips with Seonaid Alsop Fitness; and yoga and mindfulness activities with Wise Little Yogi.
