Police will not appeal on Simple Minds concert

Police Scotland have confirmed that they will not appeal Aberdeenshire Council’s decision to grant a licence for the Open Air in the Square Hogmanay concert, which will see thousands of people descend on the town to see 80s rockers Simple Minds perform and see in the new year.

A spokesperson added: “We are working with the organisers to prepare for the event.”

The announcement brings to an end a tense few months for the organising committee, after plans for the night were thrown into turmoil when Police Scotland objected to Aberdeenshire Council.

There were concerns that they would not be able to guarantee public safety at the event, but at a special meeting held at Viewmount last month, councillors decided to grant an entertainment license despite police concerns.

They were given the option to appeal the decision, but have decided not to follow it up.
