Councillor urges public over Gaza

North Kincardine Councillor Alison Evison has said the situation in Gaza is ‘not something which we can ignore.’

The local councillor is urging members of the public who share their concerns to write to the Foreign Secretary.

Over 1,100 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed in the fighting in Gaza since July 8 2014. In addition, 56 Israelis have been killed.

Save the Children reports that one in four Palestinians killed are children and that a child is killed on average every hour. More than 100,000 children have lost their homes and been displaced.

“The suffering being caused to innocent people is not something which we can ignore, “ said Councillor Alison Evison.

“Aberdeen Trades Union Council has been holding well-attended weekly protests to call for an end to the Israeli bombardment of Gaza. The next protest will be on Saturday 2 August at 12 noon in St Nicholas Square in Aberdeen.”

“Labour MP, Dame Anne Begg, has called for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the seven year economic blockade of Gaza which has contributed to the destruction across the area.”

“I would urge people who share our concerns to write to the Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond, so that he becomes aware of the depth of feeling. I would be glad to send signed letters on this subject on to Philip Hammond on behalf of local residents. Letters can be sent to me at 2 Newbigging Steading, Inverbervie, DD10 0PQ, “
