Portlethen is gearing up for its annual Gala Day this Saturday, and it is hoped that this year’s event will be the “best ever”.
The Portlethen Gala Team have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to make this year’s event the best ever. Outside there will be Carnival Rides in the car park, Segways and Zorbs in Bourtree Park, and for the younger ones a Land Train and Bouncy Castles. They have also got Wrestle Zone Scotland along to show off their moves. Other events include a Climbing Wall, Beat the Goalie, Welly Wang, Lethen Archers ‘have a go’, and the much loved Stocks.
Throughout the day there will be entertainment and displays from Newtonhill Pipeband, Portlethen Skip Hop, Sooyang Do, Zumba, Jazzercise, Dance Dimensions and Mearns FM will be there to keep all informed about the days events. Pet Competitions will be run by Bridge Vets and K9, and there will be the Great Porty Bake Off for competitors of all ages.
The Gerat Porty Bake-off has four categories - Main (Shortbread), Special (Vegetable Cake), Under 9s (Cupcake Decorating - two entries) and Under 16s (Traybake).
Entry is £1 per category, with a maximum of one entry per category, and can be brought to the cafe (area 9) between 11.30am and 1.30pm on Gala Day. Judging will occur between 2-4pm, and the winners will be announced at 4.30pm at the amphitheatre (area 2).
The competition will be judged by Hazel Robson from Kincardineshire WRI, Councillor Alison Evison, and Rev. Dr Flora Munro, Parish Minister at Portlthen Church.
If you begin to tire then you can refresh yourself at the Beer Tent, Burger Stall, or a nice cuppa at the Café. Remember, you will also need to buy your raffle ticket with a top prize of £500 to be drawn on the day. You can also let the young ones enjoy the Indoor Soft Play Area and Facepainting while you take a look around the craft stalls.
There will be much, much more on the day, so please come along and support the Gala Team. For more information please visit our Facebook Page – Portlethen Gala.
