Rehearsals begin for the Samba Band

Mackie Academy S6 student Owen McAllister invited all pupils who are instrumentalists, percussionists or vocalists who are interested in performing in the Academy Samba Band to an initial meeting/rehearsal on Friday of last week.

Owen volunteered to work with the Samba Band and his offer was accepted by Faculty Head of Music Mr Barry Drennan. Owen is studying Music as one of his courses this session.

On Thursday evening of last week, a group of Mackie pupils attended a performance of ‘The Haunting’ at HMT in Aberdeen. The pupils travelled to and from Aberdeen by hired coach with a departure time scheduled to enable them to have tea in Aberdeen before the show. The trip was organised by Mrs Mary Dey who teaches English.

Principal Teacher of Computing Mrs Lorraine McNeill held a meeting on Thursday of last week for pupils in S3–S6 interested in taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

She plans a meeting with the parents of the pupils who want to get involved to explain the scheme and to request help from parents in supporting the activities.

S5 student Taylor Williams had her long hair chopped in aid of the Little Princess Trust. Taylor was sponsored by fellow pupils and is now collecting what was promised.

Inter house sporting activities got underway this week at Mackie with football the first activity.

S1 played on Tuesday, S2 on Wednesday, S3/4 on Thursday and S5/6 are scheduled to play on Friday.
