At the AGM, Yvonne Marr was elected as branch and social club secretary, Sue Daly as treasurer and Sally Campbell as membership.
Alan Joss was co-opted on as vice-chairman at the meeting on February 23.
A very nice letter was received from the retiring president, George Swapp, thanking everyone for the lovely presentation day he had, the most welcome watch and the beautiful arrangement of flowers received by his wife.
An exciting day to be held next Saturday, April 5, being Grand National Day, will be a Ladies Day, with hats and fascinators to be worn by the ladies, or failing that just put a bow in your hair. All are welcome to go along, and the day starts at 3pm.
A spokesperson said: ‘‘We will be watching it live on the very large screen, and the cost is £10. Price includes champagne cocktail and nibbles in the afternoon, a stovie supper and dance in the evening and music by John Crystal.
‘‘ Please do come along and have an enjoyable day, everyone will be made welcome.
‘‘The draw for the Kindle Fire, which was kindly donated by Specsaver,s will be drawn the same day. ‘‘
Diary dates: April 5 - the monthly coffee morning, proceeds going to Gurkha fund; Saturday April 19, dancing in the upstairs lounge to the Music Man, from 8.30pm; Saturday, May 3, dancing to Dave Stewart, a newcomer to the Legion.
On March 8 the ladies had a very enjoyable annual buffet and dance in the upstairs lounge.
A successful table top sale on March 15 and a very informative talk on the Island of Rhodes from Mr Bell were also enjoyed.
April 3 will be the section’s committee meeting, and a cake and candy stall will be held . New members welcome.
April 10 is whist, all welcome, starting at 7.30pm. Thursday, April 17, a shortbread competition will be held.
On April 24, they shall be entertaining lady members from other branches, with John Crystal providing the music.
On May 1 there will be a committee meeting and a bring and buy table.
