Sea Cadets from four Units in the Grampian District gathered in Stonehaven Harbour last Sunday to compete in the Annual Regatta events for rowing and boat-handling.
Representation was made by Aberdeen Scylla, Fraserburgh, Peterhead and Stonehaven. Weather can often be a lottery for this event but this year proved to be excellent with calm waters for the rowers in the morning and a light breeze in the afternoon for the boat handlers, with bright sunshine throughout.
It was well attended as adult volunteers on the instructional and support sides came together to make sure the events ran smoothly and without incident.
Results : boys’ open rowing - Stonehaven; boys’ junior rowing - Stonehaven; girls’ open rowing - Peterhead, girls’ junior rowing - Stonehaven, Junior Sea Cadet rowing - Peterhead; boat handling oars - Stonehaven, boat handling power - Peterhead; boat handling sail - Stonehaven, yole mixed junior - Stonehaven.
The successful crews, along with open girls and individual yole entries who received a bye prior to the event, will go on to represent the District at the Area Rowing Regatta on June 9at Greenock and the Area Boat-handling Regatta on August 11 at Dundee
